On October 28, three-year-old Preslie Jenkins was shot in a road rage fueled attack in Port St.Lucie, Florida. She is alive and recovering.

The night of October 28th, Preslie’s family was returning from babysitting a family friend’s child. It was during their ride home that a man “flew up” behind the family’s truck and fired, in the words of her mother Nikki Jenkins. One of those bullets passed straight through Preslie’s head, just above the eyebrow. She was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. It was there she was subjected to a six-and-a-half hour surgery, during which they removed part of her brain and skull, and put in a medically-induced coma for two weeks.

She is speaking and learning to walk once again. According to the staff, she should make a full recovery. The doctors want to extend her time under their supervision for another month, delaying her much anticipated release. The leg braces and skull implants she will need accumulate to approximately $30,000. While a friend of the family has created a GoFundMe page, the current goal is only $20,000.

The perpetrator was described as a “possibly Hispanic or light skinned black male” driving a “black, newer model, 4 door Sedan” stated Preslie’s mother. The question of why has yet to be answered. Why did he do it? Why hasn’t he turned himself in? Why did he have a firearm?

Police are still searching for the man. If you have any information on the suspect please contact the Port St. Lucie police department at (772) 871-5000.
