On Saturday, December 8th, students who are apart of Thespians performed several pieces at Melbourne High School in order to compete against different schools in the district. Troupes performed pieces from 10 categories and judges rated their performances; one piece from each category wins best in show, and the students who win are invited to go to states in March. OCSA’s troupe, Troupe 6640, won seven best in shows, which means that almost every piece they performed placed first.  

 

Best in Show winners from Troupe 6640: 

Valeria Perez- Best in show for student choreography  

Perez and Company- Best in show for pantomime 

Sarah Figueroa, Jabari Lewis and Zairyl VIllanueva- Best in show for small group musical 

Villanueva and Company- Best in show for large group musical 

Ryan Murray and Andrew Brouillard- Best in show for duet acting 

Samantha Sosa and Lexi Delgado- Best in show for duet musical 

Juliet Cook- Best in show for costume construction 

 

This is sophomore drama major, Valeria Perez’s second year in Thespians, and this year, she performed in a pantomime piece titled “Amber Alert” as well as choreographed a piece called Toledo Surprise from the musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. Both performances received a superior rating from judges and won Best in Show for student choreography and Best in Show for pantomime. When asked about how she felt about winning Best in Show for the first time, Perez said: “It feels extremely rewarding. Hard work, passion, and persistence always pays off.” Students are invited to perform their pieces at states on March 20th-23rd.
