On January 3rd, 2019, a passenger on Delta Airlines managed to pass a gun through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’s TSA undetected. The passenger then proceeded to inform Delta Airlines about the weapon upon arrival to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, the airlines then alerted T.S.A. The passenger has requested their identity to remain anonymous.

“T.S.A then determined that the standard procedures were not followed, and a passenger did in fact pass through a standard screening checkpoint with a firearm,” the released statement from T.S.A states. Even though this situation happened during the second week of the Government shutdown, it was not a “test” for T.S.A. Japan’s Transportation Ministry will not be penalizing Delta Airlines or T.S.A, but T.S.A said they will be holding those responsible for the incident accountable for their actions, and that they will be taking preventative measures.
