US Weapons Turn Up in Enemy Fighters’ Hands

A CNN investigation has found that Saudi Arabia and its coalition partners have transported America-made weapons to Al-Qaeda fighters, hardline Salafi militias, and other factions waging war in Yemen. This violates their agreements with the United States.

Some of America’s delicate military technology has also been exposed to Iranian-supported rebels fighting for control of the country.

According to analysis and commander who spoke with CNN, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, have used the weapons as a currency to buy loyalties, and control the political landscape.

According to the Department of Defense, because they provided American-made equipment to third parties, the Saudi-led coalition broke the terms of its arms sales with the United States.

Congress has also considered whether to end the Trump administration’s support for the Saudi coalition, which requires our weapons to conduct its war. In the wake of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder last year, President Trump said it would be thoughtless for the United States to cancel its multi-billion-dollar deal with the Saudis, saying, “I don’t want to lose all of that investment being made into our country.”
