September 6, 2019
American stand-up comedian, actor, and producer Kevin Hart has been hospitalized after suffering “major back injuries” from a severe car crash early Sunday in California. Hart had been riding in the star’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in Calabasas, California with two other passengers when the accident occurred. Though the backseat passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, seemed mildly unharmed, driver, Jared Black, and Hart both endured acute injuries. Black had been turning onto a road when he lost control of the vehicle causing the car to drive off the street and into a ditch. It was reported that Black was not under the influence of alcohol or any other substances.
Hart had undergone back surgery less than 24 hours after the accident occurred. A source has stated that the surgery was considered successful, but Hart will be expected to stay in the hospital for a couple more days to enhance his recovery. Eniko Hart, Hart’s wife, also stated that Hart “will be just fine”, explaining that her husband is awake and steadily recovering. Black had been pinned in the vehicle and was airlifted to to UCLA Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family when he arrived. Broxterman, who was also pinned in the vehicle, was able to be pulled out by firefighters with no serious injuries.
Many celebrities have taken to social media to show support for the comedian. This includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hart’s co-star in multiple films and close friend. “Stop messing with my emotions brother,” Johnson wrote in an emotion post on Instagram Sunday, “We have a lot more laughing to do together. Love you man. Stay strong.” Other celebrities who have shown personal interest on Hart’s accident, including Bryan Cranston, Terry Crews, and Busta Rhymes.
Though hard times had hit the Hart family this weekend, many of those in the community, his friends, and his fans wish him a safe recovery.
