BSU Bahamas Hurricane Relief

Raquel Perry, Reporter/Marketing Manager

OCSA’s Black Student Union is collecting non-perishable items for the Bahamas.

While Central Florida dodged a bullet from the destructive Hurricane Dorian, the Bahamas suffered massive devastation and need all the help they can get. The hurricane’s impact on the archipelago has been called a “historic tragedy” leaving at least 20 people dead and homes and buildings demolished. Dorian was the most powerful hurricane on record to hit the Bahamas.

Mr. Cross, an English teacher at OCSA who is the sponsor of BSU says that the drive is very important. “We want to help those who were affected by the hurricane as much as we can.”

OCSA is prepared to collect donations until September 30th. The supplies that are needed are:

  • Water
  • Canned Goods
  • Can openers
  • First Aid items
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • New unopened undergarments
  • New unopened socks
  • Mosquito spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Diapers
  • Baby Formula

All donated items will go to the Bahamas Red cross Society for transport to the islands.
