On Thursday, October 24th, 2019, third grader Blake Johnson may have prevented a possible school shooting at Hudson Elementary School in Pasco County, Florida.

The eight-year-old was in the restroom when another student pulled a loaded 9 mm Sig Sauer handgun out of his backpack. The student pointed the gun at the wall, stating that if Johnson told on him, he would kill him. Scared, Johnson left the restroom and immediately confided in a school security officer, telling him what happened and what the other student looked like. When the guard searched the other child’s backpack, he found the loaded handgun.

Deputies call Johnson a hero. His mother, Laynie Johnson, is also joyful that her son stood up and did the right thing. “I’m happy that he knows what to do, and I’m happy that he was brave enough to do it,” she stated. “I’m very proud.”

The student that had the gun could face criminal charges and possibly expulsion from the school.
