Although it’s always nice to go to a theme park like Disney, Universal, or Seaworld, not everybody can afford a Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue, and that’s okay. There are plenty of ways to enjoy your summer break without spending too much money.

One of my favorite things to do during the summer is going to the beach. Most beaches in Florida are public, and since we live in a peninsula, there are beaches everywhere! While gas prices are going up as we speak, that would be the most expensive part of your day. You could even buy some fruit and water bottles from the grocery store, and pop that in a cooler. That’s one refreshing way for you and your wallet to spend your afternoon. The same thing can be said for the pool. There are plenty of local community pools, some of which are completely free. Just remember to bring your sunscreen.

Another possible summer activity is a water balloon fight. Which is the one activity that can make or break every friendship you think you have. It’s a brutal sport, but not for your bank account. Most packs of water balloons range from 5 to 25 dollars. And if you want to get extra competitive, Walmart and Family Dollar have water guns that average to about 7 dollars so you can get the edge on your enemies (your family).

When asked about how he felt about spending summer on a budget, 9th grader vocal major Brennan Hock said “Whether or not you want to admit it, summers on a budget are actually the best! Biking around with your friends, going to the pool, jumping off the diving board, and overall just having a fun time. It’s really what summer is all about.”

I personally love to shop during the summer. Whether it’s for swimsuits, jewelry, or the five-dollar Squishmallows at 5 Below, there is always a way to shop without breaking the bank. The best way to do so is by setting a budget for yourself. If you only have 25 dollars to spend, plan your day around that. You can invite friends as well!

I hope this helps you and your wallet have an amazing summer break!
