Today marks the date of the 2024 solar eclipse. A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, obscuring the view of the sun from the Earth (or at least partially). In Kissimmee, the eclipse will begin at 1:46 P.M., reach its peak at 3:03 P.M., and will end at 4:16 P.M. We will see roughly 57 percent of the sun covered by the moon.
Even though the sun is partially blocked by the moon, the sun’s ultraviolet rays are strong enough to still do damage. Please do not look directly at the eclipse, as that can lead to permanent eye damage.
All class schedules will remain the same, but all outdoor activities will be moved inside from 1:15 to 4:15 P.M.. The Osceola County School District stated that this is “… for the health of everyone’s eyes.” So, unless you have eclipse glasses, please do not damage your vision. Have a nice day!
