Emirates Quarantine Scare

An Emirates airline Airbus A380, was quarantined upon arrival at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport due to numerous passengers falling ill during the flight on Wednesday. The flight holding 520 passengers was quarantined upon arrival by the U.S Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, so the health status of 100 passengers and some crew members who said to be having sore throats, fevers, coughs, and headaches could be evaluated.

Eventually, 19 people were deemed sick, 10 were hospitalized- three passengers and seven crew members – as a precaution, and the other nine “refused medical attention”.

Eric Phillips, the spokesperson for New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, tweeted “Health officials are processing tests now to determine the cause. Symptoms still pointing to the flu.”

CDC said during their statement on the issue, “CDC public health officers are working with port authority, EMS and CBP officials to evaluate passengers, including taking temperatures and making arrangements for transport to local hospitals for those that need care”, any other passengers who didn’t feel sick were allowed to leave and continue their travel plans, and if they ever felt sick they could have a follow up by health officials if necessary.
