OCSA’s Student Government Association (SGA) has opened their elections for next school year’s board. Students from all grade levels and majors are welcome to sign up and campaign to be voted in as the next board. Open positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Historian, Treasurer, Art Area Representatives, and Class Representatives. The SGA board is in charge of vital decisions like fund raising events, school-wide event planning, and much more. Sign ups began on April 16th and ended on April 24th. After careful selection and fact checking, eligible students were notified of their confirmed running positions between April 30th- May 2nd through their school emails.
The google form is available through the multiple QR codes available throughout school and posted on @OCSASGA on Instagram. Signing the forms does not guarantee acceptance to run. The form requires: student’s names, student ID, major, current grade level, 4th period teacher, unweighted GPA, list of any school activities and the role served, a small paragraph explaining why they want to run for a position in the student government, what position they are interested in running for, and 2 staff members who are willing to support the student’s candidacy along with the student’s art teacher.
Furthermore, campaigning is highly encouraged. Students are welcome to hang up posters around the campus and take their campaigns through social media as long as all content is positive. Students will be immediately disqualified if their campaigning is against other students instead of in favor of themselves and/or their running mates. Campaigning will begin today, May 5th and end on May 9th. Elections will be open the week after, from May 12th- May 16th where all student body, with the exception of the Class of 2025, is encouraged to vote for who they want representing them in the upcoming school year of 2025- 2026. “I think it is important for our voices to be heard and represented in our student government,” Evelyn Tippett said in an interview.
The teacher in charge, Carlos Burgos Laboy, will be overseeing this year’s SGA elections. For any additional details or questions, please contact Mr. Burgos in portable 6. All updates will be announced in @volSGA on Remind. We encourage you to become a part of the Student Government Association and let your voice be heard!
