On November the 8th and 9th, Gil Shaham, an American violinist, will return to the Dr. Phillips Center for a violin performance. On Sunday the 9th, any attendees will also have the chance to hear the Midnight Strummers, a student-led orchestra club from OCSA, play a lobby performance before Shaham’s performance starts.
Shaham’s performance starts at 2:30 P.M. on the 9th, and the Midnight Strummers will play in the lobby of Steinmetz Hall from 1:30 P.M., until slightly before the main performance. To attend, you must purchase a ticket to Shaham’s overall performance. The tickets range from around $25 to $150; however, discounts apply for Row U seating, meaning students, teachers, or first responders can get those tickets for $23.60.
For those unfamiliar with the group, the Midnight Strummers are a string-ensemble club here at OCSA, led and founded by Cristopher Bulger—the Orchestra Major Representative—with a focus on inclusivity. The club is open to all grade levels and majors as long as they can play a traditional orchestra instrument. The club prides itself on being a no-cut ensemble, as the founder has gone on record to say the goal of Midnight Strummers was to create a space where “string players of all skill levels, grades, and majors can feel welcome, supported, and inspired to play together,” and that while “all ensembles at OCSA are audition-based…I wanted a no-cut group where focus isn’t just on perfection, but on collaboration, creativity, and the joy of making music.”
The group is reportedly very proud of this upcoming performance; the founder especially, as Bulger has said that “seeing [Might Strummers] grow from a small Christmas performance into a full ensemble that welcomes and connects so many musicians has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at OCSA.”
Tickets are available while stock lasts.
