Volusia County School Board to Decide if Medical Marijuana Should be Allowed at School

On Tuesday, September 25, the Volusia County school board will decide if they are going to allow students to use medical marijuana on campus. Medical marijuana is legal in Florida, but not all districts in the state allow it to be used on school grounds.

Kim Adams, a mother of a 7-year-old girl with Sanfilippo Syndrome, supports this proposal. Adams found out that cannabis oil is effective in reducing her daughter’s seizures, and wants this proposition to be approved to minimize the effects of any diseases other students may have. If the proposal is approved, students will have to give the school proof of their medical condition. The medical marijuana will also have to be handled by a caregiver and cannot be stored on campus or anywhere on district property.
