Andrew Gillum Receives Job as CNN Commentator Amid Ethics Investigation
February 1, 2019
On January 30th, 2019 Former Florida gubernatorial candidate and Tallahassee mayor, Andrew Gillum, began working for CNN as a political commentator.
He began by discussing the future presidency. According to Gillum, the person who will win the presidency “will be the person who in my opinion is able to reach some of those Trump voters.” Along with discussing the future of the United States presidency, Gillum offered his opinion of the Democratic Party.
Although getting a new job is normally celebrated, many are wondering how Gillum received his position amidst the ongoing ethics investigation. According to Elizabeth A. Miller, the commissions advocate, a complaint was lodged against Gillum by Tallahassee businessman Erwin Jackson regarding gifts given to Gillum by lobbyists, family members, and FBI agents in order to sway his decisions in their favor. These gifts exceeded the $100 gift limit politicians are allowed to receive.
The Florida Commission on Ethics made an unanimous decision earlier this week that there was probable cause for opening the investigation regarding Gillum violating ethics laws. On Wednesday morning, documents were released by the Florida Commission on Ethics further supporting their unanimous decision.
