Get ready, get set, for the School District of Osceola County’s annual College Week! This year, College Week is designated for September 16 through the 20, and of course, each day has a different free dress down theme.
The themes correspond with the four E’s that our district celebrates: education, enlistment, employment, exploration. The first three E’s are straightforward, but what does exploration look like? OCSA’s College and Career Counselor, Ms. Gill, explains, “Some students may go on mission trips, or they may do a gap year that involves some kind of research.”
Matriculation Monday promotes continuing education, and students can wear their favorite college colors. Enlistment Tuesday is for camo and other military clothing in support of students who are going to enlist. What to be Wednesday encourages students to dress for their plans after high school. Future Ready Thursday is a flashy day for neon to represent a bright future. School Spirit Friday ends the week with students sporting spirit shirts for their school.
OCSA is guaranteed to show up and show out with students whose outfits will surpass expectations! This makes wonderful content for District College and Career Counselor Danielle Malfara as she posts about contests and prizes throughout the week on her Instagram @mrs.malfara.
September 19 is OCSA’s exclusive College Fair for Juniors and Seniors. It will be held in the Expo Hall with an expected turn out of admissions officers from 70-100 colleges. The fair will be from 11:30am-1:00pm and Remind messages are going out with updates and the link to sign up. However, this year comes with the excitement of hosting for Neo City High School and Professional and Technical High School (PATHS).
Before the fair, Ms. Gill will send out a document including guidance and questions to ask admissions officers. She advises, “You could talk about if they offer the majors that you are interested in, and I always encourage them to ask about scholarship opportunities. Most colleges will have their own funding and merit scholarships so I always tell the students to ask how they can access those fundings.” Since students have limited time to go around tables, it is advantageous to prepare plenty of questions beforehand.
With a fun week and an exciting fair ahead of us, OCSA celebrates a thrilling future for each wonderful student!
