Horror fans everywhere are excited for the upcoming movie “The Backrooms,” which is set to release on May 24 of this year. The movie is directed by Kane Parsons, the man behind The Backrooms video series.
To better understand the movie, there are a couple things you should know. This movie is based on a famous YouTube series in which the viewer is shown different rooms, and they must find a way to survive and escape in order to get to the next level. The tricky part is each room has its own set of rules, and the rooms seem endless.
This movie is meant to keep you on your toes. Initially in “The Backroom” series, the fear trigger for the viewer is the fact that you know you are not alone in the liminal spaces. Based on what we’ve seen in the most recent trailer, the scare-factor is the intense feeling of isolation and unfamiliarity.
The movie focuses on Clark, a simple furniture store owner who discovers the backrooms by accident. Clark then tells his therapist, Dr. Mary, about his discovery and tells her he plans to explore the labyrinth. She advises him against it, but he decides to explore it anyway.
Based on the trailer released by A24, there is an unidentified threat that looms in the shadows. Agustina Dips Giakoulemos, an 11th grade drama major, stated, “…what intrigues me about this movie is the amount of detail and Easter eggs that were hidden in the trailers and promos for the movie.”
If you’re a fan of scares and mystery, be sure to go see it in theaters.
