When I first joined the OCSA Ledger, I knew it was going to be no easy task. Now, as I look back at my four years on staff, I am grateful I decided to challenge myself.
Each year varied for me in terms of titles and responsibilities. When I was a reporter in my freshman year, I learned that work ethic was the word. I made it a point to be disciplined in my craft, making sure that the student body stayed informed about news that they might have missed when surrounded by the excitement provided by an arts school.
Although, I’ll admit, it was difficult to stay motivated all the time. Sometimes, the critiques got tiring, and I didn’t always want to be seen as the person in charge. However, as the year went on, I realized that sometimes it’s necessary. The saying is true, wisdom does comes with experience. As long as you find a good balance, there are times to be the friend/fellow journalist, and there are times where you need to be the editor that has a newspaper to run.
I wanted to give special thanks to my advisor, Ms. Kastner, for always being kind in her guidance as I led my staff. I would also like to my copy editor, Victoria Munteanu, for always being my dedicated right-hand (wo)man. Finally, I’d like to give thanks to my dedicated staff for showcasing the art of news.
As I pass the torch of The OCSA Ledger to future journalists, I hope they always remember to remain truthful, compassionate, and ambitious in pursuing the knowledge and news of the world.
It has been and honor and a privilege to be a part of The OCSA Ledger, and while I am going to miss it, I know that it will continue to blossom under the hands of devoted reporters.
Warmest regards,
Evelyn Tippett
