Note: This article contains spoilers for “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”
The long-awaited sequel to the 2006 movie “The Devil Wears Prada” was released on April 30, 2026. The question that lies with all sequel movies is simple: “Is it as good as the original?” This is a rather loaded question as movie sequels are often different stories than the original. “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is a movie continuing 20 years after the original and features the reunion of the main four characters: Stanley Tucci as Nigel, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs, and of course Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly. Some other famous figures featured in the movie are Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga, Ashley Graham, Amelia Gray, Heidi Klum, Law Roach, and even Donatella Versace. Though most of these people are featured for one scene in the movie. A wow factor in the movie is that Lady Gaga not only acted in a scene but also performed one of her new songs “Shape of a Woman” as well as had two others in the movie: “Glamorous Life” and “RUNWAY” which is a collab featuring Doechii.
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” also has some similarities to the original, the most outstanding aspect being the cinematography. Throughout the movie there are several shots and outfit choices that help the viewer understand the scene better. There is one really notable shot in which Miranda Priestly, is standing in a mall between Prada and Louis Vuitton. The Prada store is closed, while Louis Vuitton is open and lively. This shot takes place in a time where all seems hopeless for Miranda and the Prada store being closed shows her attempting to cling on to her life while her job is in jeopardy. It shows that Miranda is capable of feeling normal emotions, unlike the first movie.
This leads me to the characters. Typically with sequels you don’t see character growth, but this sequel allows the viewer to see a different side of the main characters. You get to see Miranda being more vulnerable, Andy being more confident, Emily being less serious and in love, and Nigel who steps up to take the reins of managing “Runway” when Miranda cannot. Andy acquires a new love interest named Peter who is played by an Australian actor, Patrick Brammall. Fortunately, this romantic fling takes a sub-role to the story which is something that many feel the first movie missed. Another critique of the first movie is that it focused too much on Andy, but the sequel lets audiences learn more about the other three primary cast members.
The film’s plot revolves around Andy, who has now become the new Features Editor at “Runway”-the magazine from the first movie where she started as an assistant- and Emily who is now a corporate executive for Dior. Possibly the best part of the movie is something unique to the sequel: the emphasis on the importance of artistry in our modern society. The plot revolves around “Runway” being downsized as tech billionaire Benji Barnes, played by Justin Theroux and reportedly based on Jeff Bezos, intends to buy it and make Emily, his new girlfriend, editor and chief, replacing Miranda. However, like the first movie, Miranda has a plan to fix everything, and it involves Andy. The writing of the movie is fantastic, along with many fun one-liners. Is The Devil Wears Prada 2 good? I would say yes, but I highly recommend you see it before deciding for yourself.
