The opening for dual enrollment registration has begun. There is an assessment requirement to register. When students take send in their assessments they should keep in mind that there are two separate minimum math scores but one qualifies students for a higher-level math at the beginning. If students are not yet testing at that level, they may take intermediate algebra first. There is only one minimum reading score. Many students take the PERT to fulfil their test requirements. But there are other tests students can take. These exams include the SAT, ACT, PERT, CLT. The minimum score for these assessments to become a Dual Enrollment Student are:
- SAT- Minimum scores before it went digital are 24 for the reading and a 24 for the intermediate algebra score and a 26.5 for the College algebra score. With the digital SAT the minimum scores are 490 for the reading/writing section and 480 for the minimum intermediate algebra score and 530 for the minimum college algebra score. Students can sign up to take the exam and check and send in their scores on the SAT Suite of Assessments located on the College board
- ACT- Minimum for the ACT are 19 for the reading section, 17 for the Writing/English section 19 for the intermediate algebra score, and a 21 for the college algebra score. Students can register, find, and send in their scores on the ACT website.
- PERT- Minimum scores for the PERT assessment are a 106 for the reading section, a 103 for the writing section, a 114 for the intermediate algebra score, and a 123 for College Algebra.
- CLT- Minimum scores for the assessment are a 38 for reading and writing, a 16 for the intermediate algebra minimum and there is no determined score for the college algebra course minimum.
While test scores are important, there are a couple other requirements that students should keep in mind. Students should maintain a 3.0 GPA minimum and have completed Algebra 1 and gotten a 3 on their most recently taken FAST Reading exam. According to Mrs. Lindsey, the school’s testing coordinator, the list of students taking the exam was posted August 29th in parents square and they should, “bring their school district laptop fully charged in the case with the power cord to participate in the test session.” Students should apply for dual enrollment by October 2nd, which is the application deadline, but it is always good to aim for two or three days beforehand to ensure any technological issues can be worked out.
For students who are looking for extra practice because they are getting to their goals scores for any of these assessments but need help in a specific area or for students who just don’t know what to expect yet there are many official study resources, for the SAT students can prepare using the Khan academy course and take practice assessments on bluebook. The ACT has practice assessments on its website. Students can find PERT practice questions on the school website. For the CLT exam, students can find various types of test prep on the exam’s website. The deadline to submit these assessments to Valencia College is November 7th but, again, it is always good to plan a bit ahead to avoid any issues that may prevent from sending in the score in time.
