After the recent and increasing attacks made by the U.S Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), on to the city of Minneapolis, the state of Minnesota has sued the Trump administration in federal court in an attempt to stop the surge of ICE agents occupying the states.
The grounds Minnesota used were that the invasion was an unconstitutional “federal invasion”. The leader on the lawsuit is the attorney general of Minnesota Keith Ellison has stated that ICE raids have caused “chaos and violence” for millions of citizens. Another reason for this lawsuit stems from the Renee Good, who was killed by ICE agents a few weeks ago. More on that in this article written by my colleague, Victoria Munteanu, Shooting of Renee Nicole Good Creates a Shift – The OCSA Ledger
No interviews are needed when asking President Trumps opinion, as he posted online that his agents were just doing their jobs and were actually heroes. He also called out Minnesota and warned them that this was a “day of reckoning”. As hard as the state tried, the Trump administration has described the lawsuit as baseless. The arguments led to an eventual lowered deployment in the area. ICE agents are being used less as immigration agents and more like a police task force, with political immunity going into cities and neighborhoods without warning. To this day, the lawsuit still has not been settled and is undergoing judgment. Civilians and government officials are hoping that this lawsuit will be successful, but as with everything in politics, it takes time.
