The ever-famous award show, The Grammys, sparks controversy again as celebrities protest the actions of ICE agents. Said actions include but are not limited to, raiding schools, barging into homes, and killing innocent people. By wearing “ICE out” pins or denouncing ICE in their award speeches, celebrities showed their concern with increase in ICE presence. One of these artists was Bad Bunny, who in his acceptance speech said in regard to ICE, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans”. This quote creates a powerful message that amplifies love over hate. Other artists like Billie Eilish, Olivia Dean, and Shaboozey, also included either anti-ICE, or pro-immigrant remarks in their speeches.
Award shows are not the only ways the country-wide movement against ICE grows; Some celebrities have posted on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook about it. A few examples are Ariana Grande, Pedro Pascal, and Natalie Portman. There have even been people posting videos on what to do to help stop ICE, Kerry Washington posted about how to call your representative and block funding for ICE. This movement against ICE has trickled down from celebrities and moved towards Youtubers, influencers, and students have posted about the removal of ICE and what to do to help achieve this. Americans from all over are now calling for the removal of ICE as the movement is growing bigger, especially across the younger generations, the nation is waiting to see what the result of these protests will bring.
