The Winter Olympics start today, February 6 and continue through February 22. This 16-day event is an opportunity for the world to come together and show off each country’s bests in the field.
This marks the first year two cities will host: Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Venues will spread across Lombardy and the Dolomites in Northern Italy, with Milan hosting the Opening ceremony (San Siro), figure skating, and ice hockey, and then Cortina d’Ampezzo with Alpine skiing, bobsled, curling, and skeleton. Other locations set to host events include, Verona (closing ceremony), Valtellina, and Val di Fiemme.
There will be 116 events across 8 sports (16 disciplines), featuring a wide variety of winter sports, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, ice hockey, and speedskating.
The games have already gotten off to a strong start for the USA in ice hockey, with team USA’s women’s team starting off strong with a win against Czechia. Italy also secured a win against France, with games held in Milano. There’s sure to be more to come as the games continue.
