Robert Carradine died on February 23, 2026, at the age of 71. According to reports from his family, he died by suicide as a result of a long 20-year battle with bipolar disorder. He is best known for his roles in The Long Riders, Revenge of the Nerds, and Lizzie McGuire.
His family, despite the gruesome death of Carradine, are very adamant about telling the world he was battling bipolar disorder.
They released this statement “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness.”
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is defined by the National Institute of Mental Health as a mental illness that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, activity levels, and concentration. An estimated 4.4% of U.S. adults experience it at some time in their lives.
It is important that Carradine’s family mention his battle with mental illness as mental disorders are often ignored by society, and his family, while still upset at his death are using it as a beacon to raise awareness for bipolar disorder.
