Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against Samsung over an image of her face used on their TV boxes. The photo in question was first used in June of 2025, although the lawsuit, filed May 8, alleges the original image dates from 2024. Fans on social media started to post about, calling it the Dua Lipa TV box and claiming that they bought the TV primarily for Dua Lipa’s presence on the box.
According to the information from the filing, Lipa’s team states that the boxes were, “designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success to promote and sell Samsung’s products.” Essentially, the lawsuit argues that due to the prevalence of the product that her image caused, Dua Lipa is due financial compensation. This was only further demonstrated by the popularity of the product due to her image, specifically the fact that it became an internet trend.
However, Samsung has stated that the image was only used to advertise content available on the Samsung TV from third party partners such as XITE a platform for watching music videos that the image was originally featured on.
According to representatives of Samsung, the image was used on the packaging with explicit consent from the music video company itself and thus Samsung denies any intentional misuse of Dua Lipa’s image.
