This year’s Met Gala will take place on May 4, with the theme being “Fashion is Art.” Hosted by women of high status in popular culture: Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, there are clearly high standards being set. However, many still have questions regarding the event.
After the theme was announced, the vagueness of the statement left fashionistas puzzled. Met Gala themes are usually straight forward or easy to interpret, such as 2025’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” where they demonstrated the beauty of black culture. But this theme is simple: fashion is an art form in and of itself. Many choose to express themselves through the arts, whether that be dance, music, theatre, etc. While these are all acceptable forms of art, there is one that is often forgotten: fashion.
The theme “Fashion is Art” is meant to be an extension of the upcoming exhibition “Costume Art,” which will live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. According to THE MET, the show is meant to “…examine the centrality of the dressed body, juxtaposing garments and works of art from across the Museum’s vast collection.”
Be sure to keep a lookout for the looks high-fashioned celebrities are ought to showcase.
