On Wednesday, April 22, the Communication Arts Department will be hosting a Pop Up Poetry event during seccond half of lunch. Anyone in the media center during that time will get to enjoy free performances by any artists willing to share their words.
The Pop up Poetry event is taking place on Earth Day and the theme will tie into the day by revolving around nature. However, any pieces, no matter if they adhere to the theme or not, are welcome to be shared at the event. The event is also open to other artists outside of Communication Arts who simply want to share what they have to say or have pieces ready to deliver. Ms. Kastner, one of the directors of Communication Arts here at OCSA, stated that with this event she hopes all students recognize that “artistry can happen on the spot and in the most unexpected places.”
During the thirty minutes in which the event takes place, the department hopes to see at least 10-12 performances, allowing room at the end for additional students with backpocket pieces to perform. Mr. Capley, also one of the directors of Communication Arts, expressed how the event is very similar to it’s title; very loose and spontaneous. He mentioned how people “never know where art is going to show up. You don’t always have to put on, you know, your fanciest outfits and book a ticket. Sometimes your just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.” That is what both directors hope for students to understand when attending the event-that art can happen at any moment and can reach you in the most unexpected times.
